The Entrepreneurial Mindset: Thinking Five Moves Ahead

January 31, 2025

Entrepreneurship isn’t just about making money—it’s about strategy, vision, and adaptability. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of thinking five moves ahead—a concept I picked up from Patrick Bet-David’s book Your Next Five Moves.

Success doesn’t happen by accident. The most effective entrepreneurs anticipate challenges, seize opportunities, and plan for long-term impact. Here’s how you can apply this mindset to any industry:

  1. Identify Your End Goal. Whether it’s building a business, launching a project, or investing in real estate, clarity is key. Where do you want to be?
  2. Analyze Your Current Position. Understand your strengths, weaknesses, and market conditions.
  3. Anticipate Obstacles. Every industry has challenges—know them in advance and prepare solutions.
  4. Leverage the Right People. Success isn’t a solo game. Build a team that complements your skills and fills gaps.
  5. Execute with Precision. Once you have a plan, take decisive action and adjust as needed.

For me, this mindset has helped in real estate development, aviation, and personal growth. Whether I’m building a new tiny home community or navigating a tough decision, staying ahead of the game is what leads to success.

If you’re an entrepreneur or aspiring to be one, remember: Every decision today shapes your future. Think strategically, stay adaptable, and always play the long game.
